TB TELEVISION ADVISORY COUNCIL

Formed by Thunder Bay Television in 1974, The Thunder Bay Television Advisory Council is a local, unique, autonomous body, broadly representative of Thunder Bay and surrounding communities. The Council assists the local television station by acting as a “sounding board” in presenting the views of interested and concerned citizens and, more particularly, in presenting the collective views of the members’ constituencies. To ensure balance, the Council represents many points-of-view including those on education, the arts, multicultural and aboriginal interests, law enforcement, the environment, sports, health, clergy, seniors, persons with disabilities, youth, and more, and generally has a membership of between twenty and twenty-three individuals.

The Council is important to the station because its existence ensures that a group of diverse people, independent of the station, which can offer advice and engage in consultation, is always at “arms’ length”. While covering a wide range of subjects, the Council’s primary focus is local news services, public affairs programming and any programming activity at the local level. The Council regularly makes enquiries and initiates feedback to assist the station in evaluating its programming service.

In choosing members, Thunder Bay Television, often in conjunction with the Council, will earmark areas of community representation which will best provide a balanced expression of views. The station then requests a representative(s) from related community groups and organizations which, in turn, appoint a delegate(s).

The Thunder Bay Television Advisory Council meets with a station representative(s) five to six times a year from September to May. Viewers wishing to make comments and suggestions, express opinions, and get answers can contact the Thunder Bay Television Advisory Council by e-mail at advisory@dougallmedia.com or by writing:
